When I was growing up, I tried my best to navigate my way through childhood and understand the world that I had been born in. I received my fair share of explanations that sounded like, ” Because I said so” and “Because Y comes before Z.” It still doesn’t make sense to me.
And this came from all the adults I interacted with. The ideology was that children should stay in a child’s place. Don’t get out of line. Don’t speak out of turn. Do as I say. Now don’t get me wrong, I raise my own children to respect authority and I am not saying we should have peasants running amuck amongst the palace.
